Ms.Hoover (Keean & Molly's 4th grade teacher)
Keean's family giving Anne the award
In November of 2015 Molly's class lost a little boy, Keean, in a car crash. It was a very hard thing for Canterbury and hit all of us hard. Starting this year Canterbury started an award in his honor to be given to a 4th grade child that reflected his time on earth. It is voted by the lower school teachers on who will be given this award every year. The traits they look for are: "curiosity about the world, perseverance, treating others the way he wanted to be treated, generosity of spirit, and love for family and friends". Anne was given this award. Here is what they said about her:
"This year's recipient has unwavering positive attitude and generosity of spirit that were so evident in Keean in the 4th grade. In fact, it is the norm to see her smiling in her shy and gentle way! This recipient is helpful to her teachers and peers and always treats others with kindness. She also shows great compassion for her peers and is a peacemaker in the class. Academically, she is eager to learn and work hard in school, persevering even when the work gets challenging. At home, she is the middle child. She admires and learns from her big sister Molly and is nurturing role model for her younger bother Owen, who are both at Canterbury. The family has a tight bond."
Anne was so surprised! Molly and Owen's faces were priceless. And I was crying. This is one of those awards that you wish was never an award. It was an honor that the whole lower school faculty thought of our Anne. Way to shine Anne Claire!
